Portsmouth Programme

Who we work with

In 2017 we started working with the 1851 Trust, the official charity of Land Rover BAR, and UKSA.  The 1851 Trust received funding to partner with UKSA to deliver Go Sail a programme to introduce young people in the Portsmouth area to the sport of sailing with a 4 day taster dinghy course.

Shadowfax Racing worked with 1851 Trust and USKA to offer young people an opportunity to continue their sailing and experience yacht racing.

How it works

Interested students sign up for a programme of 4 Saturdays or Sundays during September/October. The course is split into 2 or 3 teams across 2 or 3 boats and students are taught all the basic skills needed to race a sailing yacht.

Each day is a full day spent on the water, rotating round the different positions on the boat and running informal race drills between the boats.

On the last day we enter a public race so that the students can practice the skills they have learnt in a competitive race, against teams that race regularly.

Autumn 2019 Programme Dates

Saturday 14th September
Saturday 21st September
Saturday 28th September
Saturday 5th October

Prior to the programme starting we'll allocate you a mentor/buddy from Shadowfax Racing and you'll receive details on what to wear, what sailing clothing and safety equipment we will provide, and an agenda for each day including where to meet, who will meet you, transport arrangements and timings etc.
