Shadowfax Racing is privileged to have a strong support network of 20-30 volunteers who regularly help run the programmes, doing everything from admin and logistics to helping on the shore and skippering the yachts. That said, we are always on the look-out for new volunteers!
"I really enjoyed volunteering with Shadowfax Racing last year. The days were structured yet relaxed and it felt great seeing the trainees progress so much in both their sailing skills and their self confidence. I can't wait to get out on the water and help again this year! |
"I enjoyed just being on the water … and it was a really relaxing and fun day out whilst also learning to race and sail a boat” |
Want to help with sailing and teaching the students?
We use three 33 foot yachts called Sigma 33s. Each boat has approximately 3-4 skipper and crew volunteers and 4 youth trainees. The Skipper is required to be Commercially Endorsed, and the 1st and 2nd crew mates need to be experienced and/or carry a suitable qualification such as a Day Skipper Certificate or Sailing Instructors Certificate. We can sometimes accept a 4th crew member with less experience but all crew on board need to be able to have a minimum knowledge to ensure the safety and well-being of the trainees and other crew mates.
