What does Shadowfax Racing Programme offer beyond learning to sail?
The Shadowfax Racing Programme puts great value on the wider experience and skills that sailing and yacht racing can develop. From having to communicate with a variety of people, prepare oneself and the boat, plan ahead for changing circumstances, give and take instructions, get on with people under pressure, respect one another, and review successes and areas for improvement we ensure our trainees gain the most from these varied experiences.
What others say ...
“The Shadowfax Racing Program has been great for boosting my daughter's confidence and self esteem.” Parent.
And a bit of banter that any competitive sport brings out …
“One of the best bits about it was being on Team Shadowfax - in the race we absolutely destroyed Team Workout and watching them paddle along at the side was quite a satisfactory and fulfilling time of my life.” Teacher. |
“… I enjoyed just being on the water … and it was a really relaxing and fun day out whilst also learning to race and sail a boat.” Trainee
You’ve got to be in it to win it! “The majority of the time when we were training we did mini races, the majority of them we lost however we won when it mattered … so it’s all that really counts.” Student commenting on the public race on the final day of the programme.

Sailing requires some skill, but strength and resilience are fundamental skills.
A trainee said of her experience. "My best part was the last race that we did, we enjoyed it because we stayed in the race after all of ‘it’, even though we got a bit downtrodden during the race… we came 9th - out of 45 teams!!!”

Hear it first hand from our trainees ...Leanne was one of the first trainees to sail with Shadowfax Racing. She loved the experience so much she made a film with her fellow sailors to say thank you. Watch it to hear what Leanne and crewmates thought of the programme overall and hear some of their best, worst and funniest parts of their time with
Shadowfax Racing. |
